It has a plastic knife with "Zan" something on it. The girls said it was to attract butterflies. I of course wanted to support the new Horticulture club at the Middle School. I don't want to plant it until I know exactly what it is and if it's poisonous to my animals.

It has small stickers on it. Not thorns. Plant on the right.

If it is Lantana, I think it is a wonderful plant, I have the yellow and the pink one.

My vet tells me it is posionous to the goats, but they never eat it, I think most animals know what is and is not good for them.

I don't know about your area, but here is grows like a weed and self seeds all around the place, I don't mind if they are somewhere I don't want them, I just pull and compost.

I forgot to add that Lantana most of the time has a strong smell when the leaves are crushed. I doubt many four legged critters would eat it because it's deer resistant. If a deer wouldn't eat it....nothing would LOL.

Oh yeah, I do believe the plant is the lantana. The pink/yellow is gorgeous! They come in many colors though... mostly pink/yellow/orange/ or multi-color of all of those. It can get very large and is perennial in the south. Though mine did not come back this year after how bad our winter was.

Enjoy it... very beautiful and lots of butterflies to boot! :D

I believe I made out Zantara on the plastic knife. So I do believe it's a Lantana and they were confused. They kept insisting it was commonly known as "the butterfly bush". I will plant it away from my animals on the other end of my property. I just loved the pictures when I googled Lantana. Beautiful colors. Thanks guys!!!

If you see small catterpillars on it don't be too quick to kill them unless the plant is getting eaten up. Lantana is a host for some rare hairstreak butterflies ; tiny little beauties.
