What about your dogs? Do they stay at the kennel or at your house? And your housekeeper? Would she drive to country house?

A year is really not that long. I would give your tenants a one year lease. Sounds like you are already covered in case of snow storms. You have places where you could stay overnight if need to. I say go for it! After it is all over and done with you will have survived. ;)

Different house keeper she local. Most of the time dogs live at home but if I need a break they go in kennel. I am thinking of putting in a automatic dog door. Fence in a area dogs can go in and out as they want. There is some type of magnet on collar that opens door, so i dont have to worry about wildlife

Go for it. I used to drive from Livingston to Houston to go to work, 78 miles one way. It wasn't so bad, just Houston nutzo traffic, LOL.

An hour commute is pretty standard around here, one just has to allow time in their schedule for the drive time and possible traffic delays. Four wheel drive is pretty much a foregone conclusion, though I've done it often enough with just a front wheel drive van.

Everything and everywhere is an hour from here...that's life when you live in the boonies. I like it that way...less people, more quiet, more private kind of life. Worth the drive.

Sounds like a WONDERFUL opportunity. Do the 2 weeks - or a month. Then decide yes or no on the 1 year lease.
Go for it!! I did an hour commute for about a year. It got REAL annoying.... but audiobooks help. ;) Is this an hour highway? It makes a difference.

I say you should do it, the chance to have two properties paid off at retirement would take a lot of pressure off. Your long time manager could handle opening up on snowy mornings that take longer to get there. You have friends and family on both ends that would be willing to help, that all you need. Live where you want work where you must.
