Get it out, @Nyboy, or you'll be having nightmares.

Those who really know me know I'd never really do that. I do have a strange bend to my mind, however. I have never gone dumpster diving. Not because I wouldn't do it, but because I have no life, never go anywhere, and haven't seen a dumpster in years. My BFF from the big city has done it frequently with great results. She lived in an area of apartment complexes and checked the dumpsters the day before pickup. I live in the sticks and the few dumpsters are full of unspeakable things.

Dumpster diving is like visiting thrift stores - the more affluent the neighborhood, the better the pickings are ;) Trust me. When we travel through towns like Sun Valley, Idaho or Jackson Hole, WY I always want to stop at the thrift stores. I don't dumpster dive in my own town, not because I'm embarrassed to get caught, but my town is pretty "working class." Resort town a few miles away though... :)

Heather, I'm like you I prefer thrift stores in nice areas. But even in those I usually don't find anything. But it's the hunt that makes it fun. Around here, garage and church sales are fun.

Dumpster diving or curbside pick up. We have a very nice OLD oak pedestal table that was set out for trash pick up. FIL got it before dump truck came. College towns on the day the kids head home are a gold mine. Futons, bunk beds, desks, book shelves, etc... all set on the curb for anyone to carry home!
