Yesterday, after a bit of rain over the night, the Morning Glories were very happy.

I noticed one of the vines has climbed up the Pine Tree. The arch is about 8 ft tall, so I am not sure how far up the vine goes, but it is VERY high up in the tree.

Yesterday afternoon about 3:00pm we got about an inch of rain in about 15 minutes! It was pouring like mad!

Here is the rain coming off the roof.

I was busy preparing for a congregational meal that was to be held outside at 7:00 last night. Thankfully by 5:00pm the rain clouds had dumped most of their water. and we were able to have our first night of Sukkot out under the stars.

Here is a photo from last night.

Those morning glories are something else!! I just saw someone had planted them up a wire for an electrical pole- must have been 80 feet and the glories were right at the top!! I love those colors too! Glad mother nature cooperated and you were able to celebrate outside!

I finally had to give up on my perennial morning glories. They were beautiful but I just couldn't keep them under control. They grew faster than I could cut them back. I'm taking the last of them off the fence now and I'll probably be digging out those tuberous roots for another year.

I think I am going to regret putting some to grow on my front yard arbor. They just take over!! They are now growing EVERYWHERE!! I am thinking of letting them take over my Ivy growing on the uprights for the front porch. The past two years the Ivy has not been very happy looking in the summer and really doesn't recover much in the winter. I know the Morning Glory will at least stay green most of the year here. But, it takes more water than the Algerian Ivy.

You're going to have trouble keeping them off your roof if you use them on the porch uprights. I never saw anything so eager for new territory. They put kudzu to shame.

I have never really tried "trimming" them per se, they have always just climbed up different fences in the backyard. But, I can see how they just might be a problem once they get going. I wonder, if they would stay "trimmed" like the ivy? But they grow so fast!

I got curious once and tied a ribbon at the end of a vigorous shoot. I measured from the ribbon to the new tip a week later and it had grown over 2 feet. Hard to believe. No wonder the ground around it is always dry no matter how much I water.

I have some vines that appear to grow a foot or so overnight! They like to creep on to the sidewalk by the driveway where my husband drives his motorcycle out from the carport! I have to constantly trim or tie them back so they don't block his ability to pass by.
