Moving sucks :)

Well we've been here in our new house for 10 days now, and we've gotten A TON of things done!!! All our possessions are out of storage and almost everything is out of the box...still a small pile of random boxes in the garage but not much left to unpack. The interior of the house is 90% done, organized, cleaned, set up...just needs a few tweaks here and there. Today we started on the fence building...correction, DH started on it! We rented an auger and he got our 8 post holes dug in several hours. Lots of rocks here, and very poor soil, I am discovering. It's not a huge fence we're building, about 70 feet or so, but this is our first time, so it's going to be a real learning experience for us...

Anyway, enough blah blah blah, here's the PICTURES!!

OMG I love, love, love the new house and the view! You are quick movers for sure. What you got done in 10 days would take these old folks months to do. I might suggest raised beds. 8, 10 or 12 inches would be enough to help with the poor soil conditions. Have FUN and ENJOY you beautiful new home. CONGRATS.

Oh, here's a shot of how we moved my upside down tomatoes, hanging from our ladder inside the moving truck!! After all the hassle of getting these things to the new house, they darned well better produce some ripe tomatoes!!!!

And the only "garden-related" project I've done so far, laid down cardboard to kill the grass and weeds on top of the rock wall along our driveway, so hopefully I can get some of the plants we brought in the ground by fall. Iris, yucca, rhubarb, alium will all get dumped in here, because I'm pretty sure this will be the only bed I get to this year. Oh, and today I nuked about a bazillion thistles with Roundup. They are out of control here, and I can see it's going to be a major, multi-year commitment to getting rid of them. They are horrible, with long thorns that actually can poke my feet through the sides of my tennis shoes. Poor Lucydog bites her feet and legs every time she comes inside.

That's all so far! I'm really amazed with our progress in 10 days, and have so many things I want to get done...but am also wearing out with my energy, and would love to take a day to lay around at the lake or in the canoe. Maybe next weekend!

OMG That is amazing. You are fast movers. What you did in 10 days would take these old people months to do. Everything looks fabulous. The house and view are lovely. You might want to consider raised beds to over ride the poor soil conditions. Enjoy the new place and a big CONGRATULATIONS.

Today's a good day to update ya'll - it's our housewarming BBQ, hope to see you all there!!

Fence project is still ongoing, things are going well so far but will probably take a few more "weekends" to get done. Here's Lucy, exhausted from all the fence building:

This was 2 weeks ago, setting posts - we've got crossrails in now, and next weekend hope to install all the pickets.

Relaxing after a hard day of fence building!

Here's an indoor project, we found a cool old bathroom vanity (50's?) with frosted glass doors, and turned it into our entertainment center. It came out AWESOME! Ran the wiring through the wall to the TV, which was a project but looks GREAT. And our remotes work for the cable box, etc, through the glass doors!




So...tonight's menu, just to tempt ya'll into coming over: burgers and fruit kebabs on the grill, bacon & corn dip, spicy bean dip, an olive oil & balsamic green bean and potato salad, and frozen chocolate covered banana bites with peanut butter.

The pictures look great! Poor Lucy, you shouldn't work her so hard! I bet she'll be glad when ya'll finish her fence! Relaxing looks pretty darn good too! And what a find for all your electronics!

This weekend we wrapped up all our big projects at the new house! Next weekend is a 3 day camping trip to celebrate, yahoo!

This weekend we: stained the fence, finished both gates, and installed the new dog door. It all came out AWESOME! (yes there is hail in the pictures, it DOWNPOURED hail this afternoon and it's still laying around in drifts in some areas!)

The gate on the deck is an antique toddler bed we found - it has pretty cool details - rolls on wooden wheels, several flaky coats of paint and lotsa nice rust patina. Besides these 2 pieces we made into the gate, it also had 2 side rails and the bottom, actual bed part, which I will use to decorate the garden of course!

The other gate in our back yard is a "security door" we repurposed into a gate, it came out really nice!

I love it! That's so fun and creative. Does Lucy dog stay behind the deck gate?

Believe it or not, Lucy will stay in that deck gate. We did add one piece of wire down low, just twisted a loop up nice and tight, its barely visible in the first pic. Honestly, i'm not even sure it has to be latched to keep her inside! She's pretty well behaved we can add more wires to that gate in the future if we need.

It was funny, i could always tell on the rare occasion the gate was left open at our old house - i would look out the kitchen window and there was Lucy, standing inside the yard, STARING really intently at the open gate. It was like it really disturbed her that it was left open!

WOW, I can't believe what you all have done In such a short time! The gates are fabulous. Lucy sure is a good dog.
