A Vancouver. Wa. High School musical production of " Shreck the Musical ". My wife and I took 2 of our grandkids 7 & 9 ( their parents tagged along too )to dinner at Red Robin then to the musical that started at 7:00 PM and lasted about 3 hours including a long intermission to buy junk food as a fund raiser. Most of the little kids in the audience were fast asleep by 8:30 but our 2 lasted to the end as they were very interested in the show. After the show ended , they said that it was " pretty good. There were about 50 High school and Jr. High school kids in the cast and they put on quite a performance in the very crowded High School Auditorium. The High School skinny kid ( a Junior ) that played the donkey was well over 6' tall and about 160 lbs. was by far the most talented . He had a number of gymnastic moves and splits that showed off his limberness, his singing voice was great, and he ended the performance by playing the guitar very well. The 15 member High School band was way too loud as we often could hardly hear some of the singing from the performers. All in all , we had a good time. :celebrate :ya

I also went to a musical in a high school 2 years ago and the star and her co-star were my neighbor..It is amazing the talent that they have....I have to also add that the father had extraordinary talent even at 3 years old......wonderful to see that kind of thing is not lost over the generations...

You have to really hand it to the high school music and theater teachers who can pull that talent out of a bunch of kids.
Our local high school has a yearly musical talent show that is mind blowing. So fun when you know some of the kids pretty well.

My kids high school had a teacher (a public school outside of New Orleans) that was also the Speech coach. His speech teams often won local tournaments and he had several kids that would place really high in national tournaments. One year he had a kid win a major tournament in New York City and another place second in a different category. Those were exceptional kids though, very seldom did he have any place that high nationally.

He also put on musical plays, Music Man, Grease, and Into the Woods are three I remember. Into the Woods had Stephen Sondheim music and songs, Sondheim is not easy. I invited a man I worked with to see Into the Woods. He acted in various plays around town, sometimes as the star. He was blown away with how well those kids handled Sondheim's music.

Give the kids credit but I really credit that teacher for having the courage to try it and for being able to bring out the best from all the kids, even the ones that were not that talented.
