Wow thanks guys. The southern living garden guide said not for asperagus for the coastal south. I guess I won't hurt to try.

My chickens liked doing the same thing, I'd let them out of the coop and they'd run squawking to it! :gig They were so confused when I cut down the dead stalks in the late fall.

Ann I did say I was not trying to be mean. Be glad you get the rain you get, we average 8 inches a yr here in the desert! So water is the big issue for gardening here.

Please know I am totally joking about being mean. I live where I live because I like the weather here, Winter gives a nice (although sometimes long!) break, and then Spring, my absolute favorite season, comes - eventually! :gig If there was no winter, the glory of Spring would never happen

I know you are just joking. I wish we had more of a winter here so spring would be nicer & longer here. We get about 3 wks of spring & then the heat starts rising up there. I don't live here because of the weather believe me. I want to live somewhere that has 4 seasons.

Now I can rub it in, I found a few more stalks that I will be cutting tomorrow morning!!! It has begun(for me anyway).
