My butternut squash are rotting (pictures)

Here are some pictures:

Notice how the first three are yellow, shriveled and mushy on the end. the last picture is one that is still green and firm. I'm sure it is not because some are on the ground either - I have straw under them and the one is the first picture is growing on my fence. :idunno

You know... some of my squash do that each year. I always thought it was because the flower hadn't been pollinated, so the plant decides there's no point in growing the fruit. It happens when they are still quite small, right?

Wendy, yes they are still small.

Steve, I guess it may be possible, but I'd hate to think since I have two bee hives sitting right by the garden!!!
