This morning I went out to the garden with hubby, and we picked some banana peppers and lots of squash! Hubby sees a little black bug on my squash plants and asks if it needs squishing. I told him it was fine, it was the squash bugs we need to look out for. So he asks what they are and I start talking about them, and their eggs. I flip over a bunch of leaves and there is a bunch of eggs right there. I explain about what they do to the plant, and to scoop up the eggs and squish them until they pop. After clearing off a few leaves (I was quite shocked how few we found on 8 plants) I run into a squash bug! I pick it up and show it to hubby, all the features... top and bottom and then SQUISH!

He smiled and told me how proud he was of me!

Then off he went looking at more leaves and trying to be my hero in the garden. I love that man!

:hugs

How funny! I thought Dh and I were the only ones that shared quality time squishing cucumber beetles!

Oooh, vfem, you're a lucky woman! ;)

My ex-DH would squish big nasty tomato worms for me, but don't think current DH would do it. :/

Just get a pair of scissors and snip snip those buggers in half! No squishing required... :p

I snip all kinds of bugs in half! This morning while I was watering, with my scissors I got 5 grasshoppers, a squash bug adult, two squash bug babies, and a cucumber beetle. SNIP!

The scissors also come in handy for removing damaged leaves, for selecting male zuc flowers and trimming off the blossom for hand pollinating female flowers, and for snipping out pesky grass and weeds.

I'm never without my scissors in the garden.

I'm a snipper junky too.... I love my little gardening snips. I carry my snippers right in my bucket while I'm out and about. Though I end up with more flowers that way and have to get more vases when I get inside.

But the joy to this thread, is he shared NO interest in the garden before. He's build me stuff, don't get me wrong... but he wouldn't harvest, weed or bug hunt before. All of a sudden he's interested! WHOOOHOOO

That's fantastic! :)
Once he gets the hang of the garden, let's see if he picks up on laundry, cooking, and cleaning too! We may need to clone him! :)

He'll have to turn in his "man" card if he does.

I am happy for you, my hubby and I have always gardened together, it was so much fun, now his health does not permit him to do this kind of work, and I sure miss him in there with me!
