My black lab Maizy is having issues walking. She can't get up the stairs, get up on the bed, or jump for a tennis ball. She is the sweetest dog in the world. She guards my chickens and my garden from predators/pests. The worst thing about this is the fact that she is only four years old. I am aware that labs are known for hip problems- but as early as four years old? She has had many accidents in her life so far- sprained her tail, hit by a four wheeler, hit in the face with a baseball bat, cracked her dewclaw....just to name a few. She slept in bed with me all night and our ragdoll cat kept a close watch on her. She slept for close to 12 hours. I carry her up and down the stairs so she can stay near my boyfriend and I, otherwise she whines and cries at the stairs. She is going into the vet tonight to get checked out. I would really appreciate any prayers you could send our way! I will keep the thread updated on what the diagnosis is.

I'm thinking about you and sending up prayers. My sister's Great Pyrennesse (Simular symptoms.) had Lyme Disease and was treated with antibiotics (hope Maizey bounces back soon. )

Poor baby! I hope its nothing serious. I also have a 4 year old chocolate lab who is the best dog I've ever owned. Let us know what your vets finds.

Great news from the vet! She was diagnosed with Anaplasmosis. It is a disease that is transferred by ticks and if left untreated can cause uncontrollable bleeding anywhere in the body. We caught it just in time! She is on doxycycline for a month and will have to go back in 6 months to see if the disease has been fully treated. She will then have to be checked again at a year. In addition to that issue- she had a yeast and another bacterial infection in her ear. Her anal glands were also the size of cherry tomatoes so she got those expressed. She is on about 4 different medications right now and is sleeping peacefully on her pillow. Your prayers worked! Thank you so much :)
