I am looking for something to plant in a very shady spot in my yard. It is a spot that it situated oddly. It's in a spot under an eave of the house, that sits in a right angled triangle. It gets very little sun and the only water it gets right now is from a leak in the gutter. I am willing to water as needed as there is an outdoor spigot right there. The soil looks to be in good shape. I've got hosta and peonies growing nearby, but this spot gets very little sunlight, and what it gets is indirect.

I want something that will flower in mid-late spring. My office window is right over that spot, and I want something that smells pretty. I'd also like something perennial.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Location
South Weymouth, Massachusetts
day lily
iris
peony
lupine
hosta
digitalis (foxglove)
lenten rose
columbine
hollyhocks( mine do well in the sun too).
ferns
delphiniums
liatris

I grow a couple of these in a part sun area as well and they seem to do good in both areas.
You could plant things that grow at all different times so that you always have something in bloom.
Easier said than done, I know.
If you look at some of the online catalogs for shade gardens you will probably find a whole lot more. They will have pictures and all the details of the plants.
I love shade gardens, the woodsy type. Let us know how you do.

Iris and hosta-Perfect! I have a ton of both that need to be moved. (Can you tell I am not much of a gardener?) While I crave something that smells wonderful for this spot, what I really need is ground cover. It's just a big, bare swatch and it looks yucky.

Thank you so much for the ideas!
