It is permanent. I use it to extend both ends of the growing season. I use cloches in the garden for earlier crops. Squash has not been a booming success in the tunnel greenhouse so I use my poor man's cloches in the veggie garden to get a jump on the season. It does lose my attention once the regular garden is producing. We had to take down the cover for the tunnel when we had a hurricane. I also use it when the heated greenhouse gets too crowded and start my hardening off the the tunnel.
