Very nice Daylily, Is it fragrant by any chance? I didn't even know their were daylilies with fragrance. An added bonus with beauty.

My daylily cross is Mattapoisett Moon X Barbara Mitchell. The ruffles are a dominant gene which was a big surprise to me. I have found that this summer I have gotten much fewer successful crosses resulting in seed pods. I attribute that to the extreme heat. I don't know that this is true as the south is where most of the finest hybridizers are. Many flowers are very similar. But there are so many farms because of the great interest in daylilies. There are hundreds of thousands of different plants. The naming is certainly for marketing, but helps to keep the plants organized. I went to the best daylily breeder's farm in Florida a few months back. They literally have tens of thousands of NEW seedlings that they will select from to choose what they will continue to propagate for eventual sale. They discard thousands of beautiful plants that do not meet their high standards. They select for more than the flower; bud count, hardiness, height, foliage, reproduction capabilities and many other qualities. As far as gobbling them up, yes people do. You could go broke trying to buy them all and you would never be done.

if you don't mind me asking, what were the parents? sometimes their names can help give the new one it's name! i love reading the background on daylilies and hostas to find out that they are a sport of such and such. my dh doesn't seem to understand why there are sooo many different names and thinks it's mostly a gimmick to get people to gobble them up when they come out when there are probably many more plants that look similar.

I did not check for fragrance. I have found in this summer's high heat even the most fragrant did not have much scent. The best fragrance is in the cooler parts of the day. And yes some of them have a high perfume fragrance.

My DH keeps dragging in those old wild orange varieties. I really don't like those. But the newer colors and more tidy habits I could go for. And the fragrance.I'm one of those people who can do a 180 and never look back. Lots of things I've said "No, never" to, I'm doing now. Fickle is the word for me!
