Need advice on growing garlic

Has anyone every had green garlic??? I just read about it today in "Great Garden Shortcuts". Larry Butler of Boggy Creek Farm in Austin, Texas says, plant your garlic about 1" deep and harvest early 40-45 days after planting. The bulb is small but you use the whole garlic the same way you use green onions. It even has a few recipes.

I have done that, in a pinch. Mostly, I like the garlic heads to get large, for storage. Don't forget about using the curly scapes, when you see them.
And you do need to cut those off- that is one more chore in growing garlic....
