Thank you for the comments. At first I thought to plant it, then I started thinking I was overdoing it. I'm glad I asked. No assembly required got it!

My opinion doesn't count (I'm male) but I'd rather go to my favorite nursery with my 3 year old and together pick out the ideal plant.

Of course, while I was there, some more plants would find their way into my cart....side benefit.
I love taking our daughter there she LOVES to smell all the flowers and talk about all the colors and different types of plants she saw. She LOVES to go to the nursery and I love to take her. And I hadn't even thought of the side benefits.

Thank you again I really appreciate it

I vote for the little one picking plants AND give a gift certificate.

I would let your daughter pick them out. Not only will Mom appreciate the gift, she will appreciate even more how happy it makes that 3 year old to have picked out Mom's present. There is nothing better than a gift that comes from the heart! Plus, you are raising another gardener!
Ditto this. Seeing your daughter's face light up with joy when that first flower blooms will be as much of a gift as the gift itself.

I was just gonna say what mattema said. Since you already know 99* of what your wife likes, put those plants in the pot. I think it would look incomplete if it's empty. The gift certificate is a good idea in case she would like your daughter to do another pot! She may want a pair to flank a door or something.

Has yours gotten into learning what they are all called yet?! My 4 yr old is on the trip with remembering what everything is. She can look at veggie plants with nothing produced yet and know what they are from the leaves! Its crazy... she's gotten so good. I even try some of those hard to pronounce ones and she is such a little sponge she retains that information. Of course there are tons she doesn't know, but the amount she does just blows my mind. :th
