Deeply Rooted
Okay I have a goal. Every year I watch my grandmothers 50 year old pear trees drop their fruit and ruin on the ground. The only thing I knew to do with them was make pear relish, which is absolutely fabulous on pinto beans. BUT when we ate them off the tree, they are not so good. I just thought it was the type of pear we had. So after I canned 15 pints or so the rest would rot on the ground and attract yellow jackets so bad we can't cut the grass underneath the trees. I want to see how many I can process this year because I found out that you are supposed to pick the pears and let them "age" on the counter.
I have 1 5 gallon bucket full spread out on my kitchen table "ripening" as we speak. Another 5 gallon bucket full we wrapped in newspaper and stacked up. So if this actually works, I will have lot of pears to "can". I need a recipe for pear butter and any other quirky recipe you guys have. I have one for fresh pear halves and pear "jelly". Help a girl out, I feel like I've hit the jackpot!!!
