I try not to be too provincial. I have a friend who feels comfortable correcting my pronunciation of words. He is very "well traveled." Since I have so much trouble hearing what is said (even by me!) I'm sure any correction isn't really likely to work.
One person told me years ago that it was obvious to them that I was a Californian. I should have asked how and where they were from but I was a little taken aback. Since I've now lived within 100 miles of my current home for 50 years, it's likely that I was here well before over half the people I might pass on the sidewalk. Age-wise US percentages, I'm in the single digitS'. New People? Good Heavens. They are all "new people!"
