I've got a friend that, for years, has raised horses, donkeys and goats. About a year ago he cleaned up the feed lot and piled it up in the pasture. He said that I was welcome to as much as I would take . Went this morning and got the first load and went ahead and hand processed it. It was loaded with red worms.

The picture doesn't do it justice.....the stuff is jet-black.

I got into an old cattle feed barn once that had manure piled over four feet deep. The top couple of feet were great fertilizer but the bottom two feet were pure black gold that had been composting for years and peed on copiously by generations of cattle.

Mine is available to ANYBODY that wants to come and get it!!

I filled my beds from a pile I made in 2005, and it took that long for the pine shavings (from bedding) to break down. Yes, it IS black and crumbly.

ANYBODY who lives close to me--WRITE ME!! :D

Opportunity's knocking for some lucky gardener(s). Better answer the door.
If I lived close to ya...I'd, already, be on your doorsteps.

Raging jealousy! :plbb Well, jealous anyways!

I started a pile of horse manure from a neigboring farm this past winter. We'll see how it looks next year... I piled grass and leaves on top but haven't turned or moved it.

Um, we have 2 old barns full of it, like 20 years old stuff, and 2 piles of the last few years' worth in the pasture... I just kid of, poke around till I find the black stuff and sprinkle where needed... its everywhere at our house. Maybe thats cause Dh has been raising cattle since before he was born pretty much lol.

We moved out to the country in February, and the previous owner used to sell organic compost. Unfortunately he fell ill and died in quick succession about three years ago... and what must be the last batch of compost was still in the bin out back.

Yards and yards of aged, black, crumbly compost. We've taken a dozen scoops out with the front loader and there is still more. I didn't bother to do a soil test, I just filled up the raised beds and started planting. Everything's green!

My "score" was a field goal......This "score" is a touchdown AND a 2 point conversion.
