OMG is all I can say to naming a kid THOR.

Seems there are more than a few little Thors in diapers running around out there, for real! 107 per one million boy babies were named Thor in 2013! AND even a couple of girl babies named Thor since 2011, when the first movie came out. :caf Now that is compared to 3 babies per one million with the name Drizzt in 2013 (but none with her spelling). Down from 8 per one million in the year 2000, which must have been when that chapter of D&D came out. So now we know...lol.

WAY back before it was fashionable to tag a child with an unusual name or spelling my Aunt taught kindergarten in a poorer neighborhood she had a little girl start school whose name was Pajama. Afraid to say anything wrong she asked the Mother how to pronounce her child's name. She was told it is *Paw-jaw-ma* Aunt S. asked where the name came from and she was informed she saw it in the Sears Catalog and thought it was Pretty!

A friend of mine taught in a very poor community in the deep south. She had a girl named Gonorrhea. It was pronounced Ga-nora. I challenge you to top that!

How about a girl named Vagina? She was born in the poorer part of Chicago. Her mom heard the word in the hospital delivery room and thought it was the most beautiful word she had ever heard so she gave the name to her beautiful new daughter.

Congrats on the new baby!

When I worked in Deyroit I treated a girl by the name of Starmania pronounced Star-mania & treated a Cashmoney pronounced Kaz-Monet (with a silent T like the painter). When I lost it was when I had her spell it & she said "C-a-s-h-m-o-n-e-y". When my partner gave her a funny look as if he thought she was messing with him & I said Monet like the painter? She says "I don't know nothin bout no painter..... my names French" & then pulled out her license to show us that was her real name.

Having read the Icewind Dale trilogy & the Dark Elf Trilogy I know where the name comes from. He is a fascinating character but not one I would expect to be naming a child after.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drizzt_Do'Urden for those of you who are curious about him.

I haven't read anything by him or even much fantasy since early high school (I graduated in '96 so you can do the math) but the name rang a bell with me. Curse of never seeming to forget anything....
