You are talking to a lot of people here that do care about the earth and sustainability. There are people here that work hard in their gardens, can, freeze, dehydrate their produce and share their produce with others.
for you to have that many animals like that means that to have some balance in this world others would have to go without.
I have carnivores, big ones. I can offal from slaughtering our hogs, lambs and chickens. The dry dog food I feed them has meat in it, but you can bet is isn't the glowing pictures of whole chicken or marbled steak that is on a lot of high priced dog food. People are stupid. Pet food is made from what people don't want to eat. Pet food is taking nothing from anybody's mouth, but is taking what would be a waste product and making use of it. Where do you think all that liver, heart, kidney, intestines and other offal parts go to? What do you think is done with all the male baby chicks from layer breeds in the commercial egg houses? "Made with REAL chicken!" Yup, sure is! What happens with all the offal from chicken slaughter facilities? Chicken guts go towards pet food. Feather meal is a source of protein.
Nobody is going without because I have big dogs. Nobody is going without because
@Nyboy has 12 dogs and co-owns another 10 dogs. If we both shot all our dogs tomorrow, that would make no difference in the number of hungry people. There has always been people with more and people with less and there always will be. That is, unless socialism takes over, then everybody has the same portion of nothing. I don't see anybody lining up for chicken guts or a heaping plate of chopped hog heart, but my dogs do.
That is a very dark view of the world. I can understand that you are worried about the state of things. There is a huge world population, and everybody eats. Is everything equally distributed? No. There are countries with rich resources and bad governments where people are starving. Those countries could easily feed themselves and export food. In our own country, there are people who are poor and hungry. That is why we have services, funded by taxpayers, to help those who are less fortunate. It is an imperfect world.
