Me too stepped on a nest down by garden last fall. One went up pant leg and stung me and the swarm around me gave a few more stings. Waited until night and filled hole with water and sand= I won the war.can deal with snakes and fire ants, really hate the yellow jackets nests.....always get one somewhere on the property...
EXACTLY what DH does. HE just can't wait any longerThe rule of thumb around here is ...start tomatoes 8 weeks before planing out but, who follows rules.
I've started mine as early as some time in January under lights in the basement, potting them on and putting in the greenhouse when warm enough. Keep potting them on until I can plant them out, end of May, they are already flowering and some have a few tomatoes starting.

I always find them the hard way lol. Thank god I not allergic lol. I think last year was a record for stings, I must have got more than 10 over the season.last summer was the worst encounter the dogs stirred up a nest by the campfire area of course i walk right by got 5 stings.like you waited till night armed with a gallon of used oil and a road flare, soaked the hole and lite the flare, there was no survivors...
did some reading that in late summer that the nest will start producing queens for the following years nests,,best you find them early and nuke them...
