Those in wetter climates may not think rain is a big deal but here in SoCal a rain at this time of year is an odd thing. It's often said that San Diego has only two seasons - wet and dry. This is supposed to be the beginning of our dry season so a rain at this time of year is a rare treat. It really has my garden looking perked up even though it caught me by surprise and some tools got caught in it. I had to bring them in and dry them off, then get a coat of oil on them but it is worth the trouble to see my plants looking so happy. Water from a hose just isn't the same as rain from the sky.

We had a nice surprise last night, too. It didn't rain!!!! We've had 112 inches this month!! Glad you got some too!

Yeah, we've finally gone without rain long enough that I can finally get out there and work in the dirt. That is a good feeling, but I suspect it won't be long before I want a rain. I guess I am just never satisfied.

I agree with you fully. A rain is so much better than watering. I suspect that it washes some of the pollutants out of the air and the plants get a great nutrient meal in addition to the water.

same here no real rain for once, and a pretty nice day today also.
I better get back out there while the getting is good.

I've gardened in Oklahoma probably not too many miles from you although you are probably higher than I was. I was in what they call the Kiamech (pronounced kay a mesh) country.
Wait till around July or August and you'll be praying for rain. All we ever got after August was those wooly booger storms that dump an inch or two so fast it runs right off the dry ground before it can soak in. They would roar through and be gone in 15 or 20 minutes. Sometimes the wind in one of those storms would be so strong the rain came at you sideways. It could lay everything in the garden flat.

That's great!

And you're right its just not the same, that hose water. Its too low in nutrients, and only makes up for what it lacks in chemicals. I never see truly green happy plants until they get a drink of rain water, and then they thrive like I never see otherwise! :)

Feast or famine!!
After all the rain and impossible to get in and work the garden, it is now hot here. I was outside a whole 15 minutes and could not stand it. of course,I probably would not notice if I had "eased into" these new higher temps.
Was out there long enough to find the peanuts are popping thru, potatoes blooming, peas blooming, uncovered the green beans that were being raised under floating row covers, they look wonderful, should start blooming any day..if the deer and groundhogs dont find them.
Hot but happy day!:coolsun
