Normal or Diseased Kiefer Pear ?

They are kind of small and hard, not sure when to pick them.

Pick now. You shouldn't wait for them to ripen on the tree, they'll be mealy and grainy if you do.

I give each pear a quarter turn and light tug. If they don't fall into my hand I wait another day or two and try again.

You don't want them to drop on their own or they'll bruise. We pick them while still hard and set them aside in a cool, dark place to ripen. I usually wait for the first few to fall then go pick the rest. (I know you did not get that luxury with these.) Pears are one fruit that will continue to ripen off the tree. It takes a couple of days, even a couple of weeks.
