My daughter makes the most delicious stuffed artichokes. I just boil them until soft, add nothing and eat the nutty flavored vegetable? fruit? What the heck is it?
It is a lot of work to stuff a artichoke my mother only did it for Holidays. I get very excited when I see it on a menu where I am eating

We love Thai stuffed artichokes here! Cook them long enough that you can pull out the middle section and choke. Put a lime leaf in the bottom of each artichoke. Mix some raw white fish (cut up) with an egg, curry paste, some fish sauce, maybe lime juice (I'm writing from memory). Stuff the filling in the artichoke and steam them up until the fish is cooked. Serve with a wedge of lime. Delicious!

Hey @catjac1975 , how come your Walla Walla are bigger than my Walla Walla?

;) Lots of things that I don't understand about plants. If daylength is supposed to trigger bulbing, why would bulbing be more advanced in a southern location? I think that there is more to it than daylength (... and hope a recent 2nd application of fertilizer helps my onions catch up :)).

Your beets look better also but mine had such poor germination, I'd better just take what I can get. Chard had poor germination for a 2nd year, as well. Disappointing since I so recently learned that I like the Verde da Taglio variety of chard.

Steve

hm? Massachusetts isn't that much further south than you...?

our Kelceys are just a little behind hers. they often end up 5 or more inches across (a few will make it 7+ depending upon the soil/season).

Walla Walla, WA: 46°3′ N

my garden: 47°46' N, further north than any point in Maine.

The 42nd parallel north is the California border with Oregon.

The US Naval Observatory tells me that I have 15hrs 31min of daylight, today.
Boston: 14hrs 53min :D

Considering we are the northeast, it is hilarious that he referred to me as much farther south. I have no idea how east to west effects similar climate..

East to West?

Well, it certainly does. Oceans, you know ... Oceans of difference ;).

London England is at 51°30' N and Saskatoon Saskatchewan is at 52° N . No one would even think to draw climate comparisons, except for length of days and nights.

There are the geographical features of mountains, lakes and rivers, and just the mass of the land mass, itself.

It's not that I did not know THAT. I just don't know what the differences are. Actually in any given community there are different microclimates..

ok, here's two views of some of the gardens... and one pic of cucumbers.

to give you an idea of the scale of things the tomatoes in the back corner are about 4ft tall.
