@seedcorn, I acknowledge the reality of the situation. I realize the more money equals better health care, but little money should not equal zero health care. Under these situations, either the neighbor needs to raise a lot of money quickly or rob a bank so the government will have to bear the expenses of her health care. Pity there is no good middle ground.

I may wish it were different, but I've long stopped believing in fairy-godmothers or the calvary arriving in time.

Hospitals are not required to treat uninsured people. They must do minimum care. Health care debt is the #1 reason that people go into foreclosure on their homes. I do not want to start a political firestorm, however, the whole reason for Obamacare was to help someone like your neighbor. I had to push my student daughter to get it as I could not afford $900 a month to include her in my health care. I think she would have now been ineligible for it anyway because of her age. It is minimal cost to her because of her low income. It will protect her in case of catastrophic injury or illness. She gripes about paying for it and not using it. But that is what insurance is all about.

it's a shame that a lot of companies now only hire part time employees so they don't have pay insurance premiums.many people working part time can barely afford a roof over their head and wondering what bills to pay and what ones not to pay so they can eat..
obamacare what a frinking joke, the people who came up with should be shoot...

Yes, get her signed up with the ACA (Affordable Care Act). It will cover her even with this diagnosis. Yes, she'll have some minor premiums and her deductible will be huge, but at least it will cover her to a large degree. How do I know? We're on it via Covered California. I hate it and the changes that it forced our medical establishment to make and how its moving our country to a very bad situation, but in this case it will be her saving.

A lady I worked with had lung cancer, and after all the treatments, she was sent home to die. The doctors gave her 6-9 months to live. Her husband put himself on several singles sites as a widower, so she kicked him out. She found a homeopathic/holistic healer and took treatments. Once a week, she took an intravenous solution of hydrogen peroxide, liquid vitamin C, manganese, magnesium and other vitamins. She was on oxygen, her skin was gray and the tumor was the size of a grapefruit.

In a short time, her color returned. A little more time and she got off the oxygen. In a few months, the tumor was dead, a few more months and it was shrinking. In a years time, the tumor was totally gone, only an internal scar showed that it had ever been there. I think she took the treatments for 6 months. It has been 5 years and she is healthy as anyone who never had cancer.

This same guy she found was run out of the country in the 1980's, just ahead of the Feds arresting him. He went to Mexico and set up a chelation therapy clinic. He finally returned to Texas to retire. How she found him, I don't know. But I do know there are holistic healers or naturopaths that can help. There is a cure for cancer.

I have my own chelation therapy story. I don't see how it can be pooh-poohed as quackery by the establishment when it does work for some.
Because it is all over the counter stuff and cannot be patented for the big bucks to be made from it. It's all about the money, not you, not me, not anybody, just the money.

It gave us 20 years more time with our dad. Precious time to us.

After Dad's brothers both died of heart attacks in their 50's, Dad went in for a physical to be told he needed to go home and get his affairs in order then come back in a month for quadruple by-pass surgery. Instead he sought out chelation therapy.

Eight years later he returned for another physical. The staff were amazed that all his scores were so much better than before. They decided they must have had a mix up in their records since there was no way that he could have happened to get so much better.

It was another 12 years or so and Dad went for his annual check up. He had spent the morning building a front porch for a rental property. When the doctor checked him over she said he'd never make it out of the elevator alive and ordered him into the hospital for surgery stat.

Strange, that the chelation which gave us all those good years was probably the cause of his death. The surgery was a complete success at repairing his heart. But during the surgery his blood was pumped backwards through his body. I've always suspected the plaque build-up that chelation was removing was loosened by the backward flow and broke away from the artery walls. He had a massive stroke when the heart was restarted and the blood flow returned to normal.

Still miss that guy! I have always thought that quality of life out weighs quantity of life every time. While I don't know how long we might have had with him had he not had the surgery, I know he was happy with what he was doing up until that day.

And once again the thread veers off track. . . sorry!

@murphysranch, yes, signing up for ACT is a good idea. The assistance available does depend a bit on which state she lives in. There is a court case pending right now regarding the subsidies offered through the FEDs. According to the law as written, those were only available in states that set up their own exchanges.

There is a good chance those folks who are getting federal subsidies rather than state ones may lose them once the Supreme Court rules on the case.

I have heard lots of good things from the "Go fund me" operations. If she could get enough to help only with her premiums and deductibles, she will be well ahead of the game. The monetary gifts from others has often surpassed all expectations in blessings.

If she is single and has only been working part time, she might qualify for Medicaid. Hopefully someone at the hospital or doctor's office can point her in the right direction.
If she starts a "Go Fund Me" please let us know how to donate. I know we all have numerous people closer to home that we could give to, as well, but some of us might be able to give a little.
