I'm not sure how a cave with a tannery in it would be to hang around in.
The article talked about how mice and rats wouldn't go there. Maybe that is from the activity of the laborers there ..?
One of the activities was buying human urine ... oh yeah, it was one thing the poor could do to make £'s ... well, farthings.
