What a shame! We are big fans of hummers. Before we moved, we were feeding around 30. They must come back every year, as we usually see a "scout" about a week or 2 before the main crowd came in.
We tried to encourage then here also, but so far have only had 2. They are awesome mesquito control if you can encourage enough of them .
I am so very sorry for your loss, I sure miss my old ones. It was really entertaining to watch all the squabbling over the feeders, and "boss Hog" trying to rule them all.
