My Okra popped up today. I have planted them WAY to close together. I am going to use part of the acreage I plowed up yesterday to thin them out with. I shall have lots and lots and lots of okra.

Only one of my russet potatoes has popped up. 12 blue potatoes have popped up though.

I don't know what my issue is but I HATE okra! I've tried it in every single way I know they are popular for use.... fried, jumbellia (sp?), ect.

I just can't stand it!!!

Being in the south everyone says, OH you just haven't tried it MY way yet. Well, I probably have, and I'll hate it... just like grits! :smack

I'm glad you have soooo much going on! You'll have plenty of people where you are who'll eat it up!

Now its those potatoes you have going I hope you get TONS of!!!!

My russets are going insane here. I've covered them for 3 days in a row now. Completely covered them yesterday, and I already gotta do it again today.

Yours will be good and going crazy soon. :thumbsup

I am just going by what I was told. To hill and cover them as they grow. I'm not completely covering them, just up under the top leaves. In fact, I can only cover them 1 or 2 more times before I'm at the top of the container and I have to stop. I didn't think I would have to do it that much.... but its growing like a vine... up and strong!

If I'm even doing right, I don't know?!

These is only one of several methods I've seen though. Some people just bury them and leave them!

Here's a picture from last friday:

See the line in the container? That is where the dirt is now and the leaves are above it!

Send all extra okra up my way......the season is very short up here. Takes hot weather to get it to bloom and keep them from getting woody.

Daughter and I eat it as fast as it comes..

NE Indiana. July/August and parts of September are great. What types do you grow? I'm thinking of buying the hybrid okra this year as it needs a shorter growing season.

I dont know what kind it is. I bought the seeds at the feed store. The lady had them in a Mason jar. I didnt know there were more than one kind untill I was reading this months issue of Texas Gardener. This is my first year planting
