It is hard to tell from the pic but that almost looks more like Chionodoxa than Scilla? (I actually like Chionodoxa quite a lot and the more purply color is WAY easier to work into garden planning than the scary robins-egg turquoise-blue of Scilla)

Unfortunately I have no way to find out. Whoever planted those is long gone and the property has been turned over to a local land trust to be left to nature. I'll check out some pictures later to see what it look smore like.

Do you remember this thread?

Well, here is what I was talking about - unmowed yesterday (a little covered with snow at the moment but, still unmowed):

Because Ridgerunner reminded me: I went looking for the bulbs last fall. (I didn't even know that Ridgerunner was reading this in April . . ! He'd be a good "detail" man to have around ;)).

I dug out a strip in this area about a foot wide and 3 feet long. Digging down about 8" - I found nuthin'!! No bulbs anway . . . What I accomplished was to kill the plants where I did that! I guess I tore up the rhizomes or whatever but I could NOT find anything but roots in that strip - no bulbs. I replaced the sod - these funny plants didn't come back, the grass regrew okay.

I'd intended to move the bulbs somewhere they could grow to maturity and bloom. I've wondered if they are scilla. Maybe I'll never know. They have never bloomed in the 16 years I've lived here. The lawn will be mowed in a couple of weeks and they will be gone again until this time next year.

I'd move the entire block of sod somewhere but that would likely just kill these plants hiding in with the grass. Trying to find what they are growing from didn't work - I now know how to get rid of them but I don't know if they are scilla.

I have an old patch of daffodils that have not bloomed well for a few years. I suspect they need to be dug up and divided. I always think of doing it this time of year when they're so pathetic. But can I divide and replant them now? Should I wait until fall?
You can do it right now. In the fall you will not see them. It my mind that makes them gone. I continually replant spent daffodils. Moving them and fertilizing them will get them blooming again.
