I figure people can have whatever opinion they want about how my family works. But it's my family. I won't butt into their family life and give unsolicited advice and I don't expect them to tell me how to run mine.

I would have lived with my MIL in a heartbeat. I am hoping son and his family will move in with us and help with Dad as his illness worsens. I've always thought an extended family would be a real blessing.

At least I am close to all of my grandchildren and they spent many fun hours with us while their parents had alone time.

I was out for a walk today and passed two ladies, climbing in their car. One, I noticed first and decided that she was 30-something.

Then, the other turned and I realized that she was carrying a baby and looked to be about 20 ... Three generations?

Some grandparents are just a little older than kids!

My son will be pushing 50. How soon I will be wondering ~ if things had been different ~ whether he is to a great-grandfather age, in some households ..?

My youngest SIL had her first child at 16 and her son a couple of years later. Her son had his first son at age 15 and second at 17. His first son waited until he was 18 to become a father. My SIL became a grandmother at 34 and a great-grandmother at 52 and her son, a grandfather at 36.

I guess I did it all wrong. I'm still waiting to be a great-grandmother and have no prospects yet at 68.

My grandma on mothers side was part vampire, she never aged. No one believed she was my grandmother when I was a kid. Her whole adult life she looked 30 years younger then she was.

I imagine that 38 year old grandparents ..

. really question whether they have the maturity ..

. to be parents of parents and grandparents to children.

Ellis Island records show my father's parents where 23 and 15. Now a days my grandfather would have gone to prison. My grandmother had 13 children, she was probable pregnant when they left Italy

In my College Anthropology class we studied a custom of a primitive tribe where a man had to prove himself as proven hunters and providers, then at age of between 35-40 he would pay a dowery to the parents of a 13 year old bride. Both of my parents were siblings of 10 born , but were one of 3 that survived past the age of 5 due to deaths from extreame cold weather and childhood diseases who then lived into the 90's. Both of my parents looked at least 20-30 years younger than they were. When I graduated from High School, I met a 18 yer old guy from Mexico who had already 5 kids by 3 different women in Mexico and he already had 2 kids and 3 other women in the US that were pregnant. These 2 kids and 3 teen aged women were on Welfare. :caf
