We run a lot in the spring, scrambling to “get everything done” but always have an eye out for those roses they tell us to stop and smell!
yesterday i took a minute to do just that and noticed the first asparagus spear starting to emerge, right on time.
i’d also gathered a few things to add to dinner and took a quick picture as part of my record keeping; allowing me to refer back and judge progress from year to year.
There’s some Self Heal, used for last nights tea, some pumpkin flowers which we eat raw; the bigger they are the sweeter they are. And some immature summer squash taken to encourage production.

This afternoon; this years onion bed was trowled smooth and planted then a drip manifold was tied into the main line. Monday i’ll put the hoops in place and the Agribon cover on. A little at a time; but here we go!
Next week will be a whopper.

”It’s Monday now” and the onions are done and im hoping this cover will help keep the fly’s at bay this year.

This nice first mess of beans will go great with our Mothers day dinner!
(Greenhouse bush beans)

In a couple hours, that sprig of Anise Hyssop will take a dive into the tea pot; and cap the evening for us!

11 hills each of the magic moly and the red Norlands went in the ground today And this is about as far into the year as we get with our own potato’s. We produce around 80 lbs each year and once the seed potato’s go in the ground i bust the sprouts off the remainder and eat on them another month or so. Once they get this far along, the Moly’s are still fine eating, the Norlands not so much.

the long sprouts look kinda weird but pretty soon these will be leafed out!

Within a week, we’ll be eating ”our cukes” again; a very welcome time of year!

We are at 17 1/2 hrs of daylight now and this will grow jut a bit each day (5min) until June 21st; right now you can still see real well after midnight!
Sweet success cukes, Sychilles pole bean, Darki parsley and Tango celery.

Outside; today i put the Self heal, 2 Juliet cherry bushes and the Anise Hyssop in the ground. I cant say enough about the Hyssop, if you like the mints and are a tea drinker you might give it a try. Each year i seem to abuse it worse and worse and it still makes a good crop.
this year i just dumped seed out of the package paying zero attention to how many went in a pot, most of these ended up with a dozen or so. I planted it too early (again) and had to clear cut it a month ago to control it and finally put it in the ground today. Major root binding in every pot and yet they are all doing fine.
typically i’ll cut this stuff 3 times in our season allowing this little patch to make a full gallon of dry, crushed herb Which we’ll drink on all year.

Anise Hyssop is something I really want to try, mint is one of me fav herbal teas.

@Alasgun I am LOVING the effects of alfalfa meal and kelp on my eggplants! I can already tell the difference between the plants I transplanted without it, and then when I started adding it to the pots. It is amazing stuff. I'm so glad I found some nearby. Thank you for the inspiration! The same shop offering those amendments is finally selling 1 kg bags of azomite! I was so happy! I've been adding that one too, to the latest transplants. I did some research on it and it looks to be amazing stuff, and impossible to overdo. I'm going back tomorrow to replenish my kelp and alfalfa bags. So grateful. 🙏

@heirloomgal thanks for the kind words. Spend a little of that research time learning about Comfrey, it’s a “renewable homerun” that will hang in there for years.
look at this as a challenge! They tell us “fear of the unknown” is mans greatest fear and yet; i’ve never seen even one little spec of fear coming from you. Can’t imagine it not growing for you, once you get a bed established. NPK is right up there with most fertilizers And you can cut it numerous times per season.

if your interested, let me know, if you need any help, let me know and if you can’t find seeds or starts; let me know.

Oh yea; you’ll have lots of pretty purple and pink flowers too. Surely that’ll lure you in?

‘Some days are like that”. I recently stumbled onto Mark Outhout of mid valley greenhouse, right here in my town. Apparently he and his Wife have been at this for roughly 30 years and have a long history of growing tomato’s, many of them; crosses of they’re own breeding.
Mat-Valley Express is the current show stopper with accolades coming from all across the country touting earliness, flavor, size AND the ability to be grown reliably outdoors. Something not all that common in Alaska. It looks like the pollen was donated by a Bloody Butcher and a flower from a Brandywine. Anyway, i have no experience with it but a LOT of desire to see how this Indeterminate will perform for me.
i’ll keep this refreshed as progress shows.

p.s on the tomatoville site this strain has it’s own following!
