Alasgun
Deeply Rooted
Yesterday i finished roofing the Generator shed so today i offered to work with the folks returning from the fish wheel.
Every year about this time Folks from the church man the fish wheel then share the fish amongst themselves and fill the freezers for our food bank. This year was exceptional with something approaching 400 salmon taken. The vast majority are red’s but there were roughly 30 kings this year as well.
A picture’s worth a thousand words so here’s a view of how my day went.
One fellow outside emptying and sorting coolers into trays that are put thru the window to the army of women inside; who reduce the fillets to fit in the vacuum seal bags. Others pat them dry and put them in the bags. Then they come thru another window to me and another fellow who stand there running a pair of commercial vacuum sealers. Bagged fish are then sent to a pair of chest freezers for storage. Along the way Workers are encouraged to take all the Salmon they want for the year and the remainder find homes thru the food bank.
roughly 15 people processed those fish in 5 hrs, and i’ll just finish out my day in a chair now; certainly not gonna have Salmon for supper.
