This time of year the “sled-dog folks” are gearing up for upcoming races. Training involves hooking 20 or so dogs in harness, to a wheeler which the dogs love to pull (in neutral) for mile after mile. Once there’s snow of course they will switch to sleds. It’s fun to stop sometimes and watch them run by. Lot’s of different personalities in these teams and yet they all work together and enjoy what they are doing. You should hear a kennel (usually over 100 dogs) when the Musher comes out to take some for a run. You can imagine what this many dog’s sound like as they all Howl in unison; Take me, Take me! 😊

I have a young Lady who always gets my trim/fat bags after the Yak butchering is done. They Love that too!

While enjoying a temperate couple days; i opened the greenhouse, lit the Toyo and went back to work on an irrigation up-grade. Previously 7 of these zone valve’s were brass gate valves and after a couple years they did not seal any longer so each of them were replaced with the same nylon valves i use out in the raised beds; where all of them are at least 6 years old and never a malfunction.

In the spring i plug a variety of drip or emitter line into each valve, depending on what’s being grown in that section, that year!

And as the cold and dark continue to encroach on my world; i’ll crawl back under my rock and wile away the time with some Canoe and Fly rod projects!

I sound like I am wet behind the ears, but DH, DD and friend took our 2nd Carnival Inland Passage cruise in 2023, in Late August.
We left the balcony windows open every night. VERY pleasant, and, of course, No ocean swells.
As I understand it, living in Alaska only really exists bc it sits on the west side of North America.
East sides of temperate, sub arctic continents are the very coldest, but the west sides get warm-er ocean waters to keep it warmer.
Consider that Champaign, IL (next to me) sits at 40 degrees latitude.
Rome, Italy, sits at 40 degrees latitude.
Location is EVERYTHING!
WE are landlocked.
Rome is west side of a peninsula, western coast of Europe, AND it has the Mediterranean to bring warm waters to the peninsular coast.
