All my life I have been involved in gardening in some way if it was to help gathering as a child or as and adult growing my own.
I stepped into the world of Heirloom Seeds last year and fell completely in love with them.
I was amazed at how much they grew taller and better than the store bought ones.
My Charantais Cantaloupes were to die for last year so sweet and just the best I have eaten in years.
They did ripen very quickly tho and I lost a few to cracking and ants.

So this year I ordered some tomatoes and melons and I know nothing about these varieties and would like your Opinions of them

Tomatoes
True Black Brandywine
Paul Robeson
Cherokee Chocolate

Melons
Petit Gris
Collective Farm Women
Orange Flesh Tender Sweet (watermelon)

Paul Robeson- not typical of other "black" tomatoes, a bit more acidic but overall a good balance of flavor. These are good sized tomatoes that are a little more prone to crack even under desirable conditions. Typical maturity is 70-80 days.

Cherokee Chocolate- Taste is pretty similar to Cherokee Purple, mostly just the color is different. Has a great flavor, huge fruits and produced very well in test gardens. Unfortunately was prone to fusarium and bacterial wilts. Mid-season variety 75-80 days.

Black Brandywine- IMO, best tasting brandywine of all! Prolific producer of large heavy fruits. Really had no issues with growing Black Brandywines, had a bit of issues with cat facing last year, more heavily with this variety than others. Late season variety 80-90 days.

My whole order from Baker Creek is stuff I never tried before with one exception....dragon tongue beans. Those were delicious! I am pretty excited with my starters. I have wild strawberries, farm woman melon, chinese noodle beans, black cherry tomato and ground cherries.

I was going to order the Ground Cherry but I read somewhere they could be toxic if eaten in large quanitys

I have tried the Chichiqelite Huckleberry it wasn't good and not sweet at all.
Tried the Litchi Tomato Beautiful plant that the small green worms just devoured I couldn't keep them off.
The taste wasn't pleasant either very bland.
Both of these would make a big statement in the garden beautiful plants, but if your going for taste I would skip them.

"Toxicity: Leaves and unripe fruits of groundcherries are poisonous and even fatal if ingested by humans. However, ripe fruits are not as toxic and can be made into jellies, jams, and sauces. Alkaloids from groundcherry plants are suspected to be poisonous to cattle, and there are reports that sheep and other animals were poisoned as the result of eating foliage and unripe berries. However, the plant is only toxic if ingested in large amounts and animals generally avoid eating groundcherries unless more palatable forage is not available, so poisonings are rare."

I limit fruit intake anyway so I will risk it :D
