Well, I finally put my order in. Last year I waited too long and did not get them in as earlier as I should and then this year it completely slipped my mind until last night.
I just ordered from Wood Prairie Farm:

Buttes ~ a russet potato
Onaways ~ a white new potato
Cranberry Reds~ are red inside and out
All Blues~ like the name says all blue inside and out
Caribe~ is purple inside and out.
So in addition to my colorful eggs this year I will have colorful potato salads.
Now I just have to figure out where I want to plant them............

I know, I even put yukons in my cart but then took them out because I can get those in all the groceries stores here but I can't get the other kinds around here.
I love yukons made into mashed potatoes.
I figure these colored ones though would be good for the summer since I usually use potatoes in the summer for potato salad or sliced and roasted on the grill and they will look good.
Then again, I guess you could always have purple mashed potatoes
They would go with my colored carrots.
I bought carrot seeds that come in purples, whites, pinks etc.
I did it for the kids, they have their own little gardens and they like to plant the fun stuff.
I still got the regular seeds.
I did plant the all blues last year but they were small because I got the in the ground later than I should have.
I am in good shape this year though.
It sounds like they have some good disease and bug resisitant strains so I am hoping for a good yield this year.

Yeah I thought blue mashed potatoes would be great!
I tried purple cauliflower last year. It had a great bright purple color, but when I tried to make cauliflower soup it turned grey. :sick

Purple cauliflower huh? See this is one way to get the kids to eat foods that are not their favorite thing to eat.
My kids love the idea of planting funky veggies, I will have to try that.

I love the Cranberry Red, All Blues and Peruvian Purples. But, fair warning, I am the only one in my family, including extended family, who eats lavender and pink mashed potatoes without complaint. Last time I made mashed potatoes using a mix of the Cranberry Reds and Peruvians, they came out mauve (it was awesome! tasted heavenly!) and I got almost the whole bowl to myself. You'd think kids would eat it, but no, my cousin's 5-year-old complained too.

Isn't that always the way! You think you are making something everyone is going to love and they turn their nose up at it.
My kids can do things like that too.
The only good thing is that my husband would eat a bowl of cement if I put it in front of him.

I'm going to try "perennial" purple potatoes from Oikos Tree Crops. They say they have been going for nine years in one spot. (I think he's z5 like me.) Then I'll always have potatoes, even if I forget to plant them. Though it sounds like they get a little smaller, over time. Well, I'm going to try it.

I've tried to grow them in tire "potato towers", and a "smart pot" if anyone's heard of that. Pretty sorry endevours. Anyone do anything like that successfully? Or what are your best tips however you do it?

They were Benjamin Franklin's favorite flower, so I read anyway.

by chance does anyone know what sort of potato might do well in the tropics? I think I'm in a 9A zone.

My Mother just ordered some of those as well. I had never heard of them untill the other day. Blue mashed potatoes. Blue baked potatoes, even Blue Frenchfries

A savy eatery could market that if they were any good.

I am curious about that too.
