Back in the day my husband did all the repairs himself. I was usually his scrub nurse, handing him tools, holding a flashlight, steering the vehicle being towed by him, hiding the sledgehammer... haha.

We have a little more slack these days and can usually have the local mechanic do the repairs. Which is fortunate because I told him I quit, he was going to have to find another helper, or be lonely when he's busting his knuckles.

back in the day cars and trucks had points and condensers maybe five or six fuses...now you have computers and sensors running everything and a battery of fuses.

pop the hood..wheres the engine???????

Yes, that's another reason for sending them out, lol.
I actually used to recognize and be able to name engine parts, just from standing around keeping dh company when he was (grumpily) fixing a vehicle. And I'm not even remotely interested in engines.
Now I only know where the dipstick, the wiper fluid, and the radiator are.

@thistlebloom it is an art to know how to tow a vehicle or to be towed. Good for you that you were able to "help" your husband fix the truck! I've had so many bomber cars/trucks that I kept a tow chain in what ever I was driving. LOL

Eeesh. I cringe at the memory of those first tows. it was a bit rough since I hadn't perfected my husband ESP skills yet.

But yes, do something often enough and you can learn something if you pay attention!

Car repairs are so expensive even if it's something minor. I swear somebody is making some good money. Much more than my son who works his butt off and puts in tons of hours. Next Tuesday we are dropping my husband's car off. I expect a bill for $3,000. Still cheaper than car payments. :\
