If you are 8, there are 3 cows, and your dad and older brother have gone on a hunting trip, it's overnight .... Mom won't help! Her mother told her to never touch a cow . (I still can't believe that Dad did that to me ....)

If you are 16, you can milk one in about 8 minutes. Of course, at 16 it also seems like it takes all night.

I recognize and appreciate Richard's more recent experience.

It's been decades since I've sat on a milking stool.

With impatient cats marking time.

Greetings, The 2X4 pivots on a bolt and is secured by a loose bolt in a predrilled hole. The chute is also a sqeeze chute, the side panel rotates. How's your girl doing? Have you made cheese and/or butter?

I put the milking machine together it's a surge milker can and valve with a medical vacuum pump that has a rechargeable battery. For one freshened cow the clean up time for the milker makes it easier to hand milk.

I just looked at the pictures, can't see the securing bolt on the head catch, girls must have put it in from the other side there are several predrilled holes and used depending on the size of the cow or bull.
