I could get up on a soapbox about this, manners, why doesn't today's generation teach their kids manners, I was taught good manners when I was very young and our kids were taught good manners when they were young, also how they were to behave when out in public. We could take our kids anywhere and they behaved themselves, no they weren't little angels in fact they could be little ....... at times and got into their share of mischief but not when out with us.
We very seldom took them out to eat in a restaurant, we couldn't afford it. It was a treat for me as well as them and there was no way they were going to act up and spoil my meal never mind anyone else. Even in a family restaurant there was no jumping up and down on chairs, running up and down the aisles screaming or screaming because they weren't getting their way. They knew the words please and thank you and they used them often.
Oh, by the way our kids only got one warning, sometimes it was only a look. Discipline didn't ruin our 3, they had choices, wrong choice, consequences. Today they are all productive, well adjusted adults and hopefully their children and grandchildren will be too.
Annette, I agree with you 100%. That's how we raised our kids. We would always go out to dinner early before our daughter got tired and the restaurant got full. One night i noticed that people kept looking in our direction and I mentioned it to my husband. He discreetly looked around me and said that Tony Bennett was sitting behind me. Well our 5yr old had to go to the bathroom and I had to say excuse me in order to scoot my chair to get out. He complimented us on how well behaved our daughter was. She was the only child in that restaurant and enjoying her escargot.
Wow, Tony Bennett, so cool, your kids sure can make you proud, most of the time. A little off topic but I'll share. I have such tunnel vision at times, I was in a hurry with one thought in mind, get to the material shop before it closed. As I was scurrying along I wondered why several shop keepers were out on the sidewalk looking past me. When I got to my destination I asked what is everybody looking at, the answer I got was...Didn't you see? you walked right past them...I said who...she said John Wayne and Cesar Romero they had been in the camera shop next to the one I was heading to. I did a quick turn around but they had already turned the corner. How did I miss them, they're both pretty tall, you think I would have noticed but that's tunnel vision for you .
Apparently John Wayne's yacht was anchored out in the harbor, they were probably on their way to Campbell River or River's Inlet to go fishing, that's where you hook into the big ones.
Annette, one time Robin Williams was sitting a couple rows in front of us at the theater. Another time I was at the mall looking down to the level below and I saw George Lucas waiting for someone. Another time Danny Glover was in front of us picking up SF Giants tickets.
Not to be a name dropper... I took a yearling colt to an auction , Roy Rogers came to a stall and we chatted while he looked over my colt. He bid on him , but was outbid. I met a number of SF 49ers football players and chatted with them at their training camp. Played catch with Jerry Rice and Joe Montana.
I do have a sign I bite on cage. I have a home video of a birthday for my uncle, I play a game with friends how many movie starts can you pick out, how many of my family members can you pick out. Out one point during party my aunt is frying eggplant, she forces a plate on Mel Gibson, he takes a bite and says this is awful. My aunt mumbles some thing under her breath which I am sure was a f**k you, then says throw away and walks away.
