Painting the Wrap- a- round porch

Well I could not find the thread where you show off your do it your self skill, so here goes. Fee free to hyjack with your own projects.
I have been avoiding painting the ceiling of our w

wrap around porch. Mold had to be clean, Darlings son and son-in-law, Evan and Jon came to help do the horrid job ofscraping and sanding. Tom and I did more scraping and spent hours masking the walls and trim. I can't say enough about renting a paint gun! Started out as a disaster, but once we got the hang of it, what a fast and great job a sprayer does on a 100 year old porch ceiling. A few touch-ups to go and the worst part of the job will be over. I thought the photos of the masked porch were quite interesting in the brilliant sun the next day.

I like painting. It is more work to prep for painting than the painting is, but I like new paint. Your porch looks wonderful!

We need to paint the entire house... I HATE, ABSOLUTELY HATE painting, especially if it involves ceilings..

Looks so nice Cat, I'm not a blue person but that shade reminds me of summers at the beach. I like it! The nice thing is that you won't have to do that again for quite awhile. Great job.

Great looking job you've done there. May I ask what spray painter you used? Maverick is painting a fence for a friend and her sprayer isn't up to par. I was thinking of purchasing one but have no idea what to buy.

I had one that was about 25 years old-one that was very cheap when I bought it and I used it a few timeS. I told my husband that I wANTED TO RENT ONE. THE OLD ONE SOUNDED LIKE A MACHINE GUN ANND I KNEW A PROFESSIONAL ONE WOULD WORK BETTER AND OF COURSE BEING 25 YEARS NEWER IN TECHNOLOGY WOULD NOT HURT. Not mad-hit the wrong key. We rented one from home depot. After fees it was around $90 a day. The masking took 4 times longer than the painting. However, the speed and result of painting was well worth it. Using a roller over head is hard on the body when your reach, let me say, a certain age. Physically it was a piece of cake. And the porch is bigger than the photo shows-goes around the corner. Buy renting you are getting a very expensive tool that most of us would not want to purchase.

When we bought the house it was painted white. I stripped the ceiling and found blue underneath. It is a very old house and fortunately the previous owners had not painted it too many times. We have kept it blue ever since, though I like this color better than the previous one. Blue porch ceilings are traditionally New England. I don't know if that is a Victorian thing or not. I do see other old homes in town with the ceiling painted blue.The Decking will be a lighter shade of the same blue.

LOVE the shade of blue you chose and it looks beautiful! People paint the ceiling of their porches blue because bees/wasps won't build a nest on the blue. Don't know why, but it's true and that's why you see so many old homes with the porch ceiling painted blue.

My question has always been, why not paint the sofitting blue as well?

Was it just last year that I was the "monkey jumping on the bed?" I had decided that leaving the bed covered with a tarp in the middle of the bedroom might make painting the ceiling a little easier for me ..

. it didn't .

A clean, bright ceiling adds so much to human comfort and optimism!
