On or about the first of April I am going to replant most of them in a section of Ava's melon patch where the sun will shine on them all day. I think Mother Nature will do just as well, or better, than all of my tender loving care has done.

what varieties of melons? melons are a true test of a gardener which i believe she'll pass with flying colors! did you switch it to the full 360 acres for melons? or sticking to 40 acres?

Someone on the forum recommended a variety of cantaloupe called Sweet 'n Early last season. It is a short season melon, which I need here in New York. We have never tried melons, so it should be interesting. I am thinking of trying to grow them on a trellis. We can go broke keeping Ava in cantaloupes from the supermarket in the winter. My wife buys two or three every week. When her mom picks Ava up my wife packs a sandwich bag with cantaloupe wedges for Ava to munch on on the way home. God, she loves cantaloupe!
