Of course, read it, hey, it's on food network so it has to be good, right? NO. Batter way too thin, knew it when assembled, too much liquid, but went ahead.

Is it me, food looks good on network but recipes are average at best. I'm done with their recipes. Too many other sources that are consistent.

I make a cobbler crust with a melted stick of butter, sugar to taste, cinnamon and oatmeal mixed in until it is crumbly. Then I spread it over the fruit and bake. It is easy, quick and good.

And healthy--oatmeal and fruit! How I make crisps. Sometimes I put some on bottom and top.

Grandmama's Cobbler - aka 123 cobbler or upside down cobbler

1 cup flour
2 cups sugar
3 tbsp baking powder
4 cups fruit
also need
a stick of butter and a cup of milk

Dump the fruit, some sugar and a little water if needed into a sauce pan and bring to a boil.
Melt the butter in the bottom of your baking dish.
Mix the flour, the rest of the sugar and the baking powder together in a sperate bowl. Add the milk to make a loose batter.
Dump the batter onto the melted butter - DO NOT STIR
Dump the fruit onto the batter - DO NOT STIR
Bake at 400 till the crust is golden brown

Works every time! The crust is so good.. I've been known to make a cobbler cobbler when I didn't have any fruit handy. ;)

I guess "cobbler" covers a multitude of types of baked desserts. I have always just made a pie crust, cut in strips and use it on the bottom and top. But all these ways sound delicious! I want cobbler!!!:drool

Is the flour/milk mix runny? Recipe I used was 1.5 each of flour/milk. And mix was runny. I used self rising flour that maybe the rise was past rising?

It's thin - but not runny. Sort of like pancake batter.
To be completely honest, I've made this so many times, I don't measure anything. A 'scoop' of flour, 2 'scoops' of sugar. If I use bisquick, I skip the baking powder. If I use a can of pie filler then no sugar added to the fruit. Sometimes a lot of butter, sometimes not so much... well.. very seldom is it less.. LOL
Just enough milk to make it a smooth batter that pours into the melted butter - but does not glop.
It's pretty fool proof. Sometimes it's a little more 'gooey' in the middle - sometimes more sweet, buttery crust - sometimes more fruity - always just plain ol' good.
