we have 3 'sweetpeas' that were rescue chicks from our local zoo. They are kept in my coop with my chickens... and my dog during the day... they are a bit skittish... and had to get used to the dog...lol... but they really are sweet. It has taken a lot of patience to get them tamed down but they will sit on a lap. My roosters are all like that too... I think most animals figure out fast that they are spoiled rotten and don't want to ruin a good thing here. Lol

I was talking to my friend that had the peacock the other day and I told her that I was thinking about getting some peafowl and she said "Do you remember Petey? Are you crazy?!" and I said "Yeah, but he was all alone... I think he just wanted love!" then she reminded me about the time he attacked my moms brand new car... haha! I think he was just being territorial because he could "see" another peacock!

I'm not sure if we will ever get them, but I think that they are just absolutely beautiful animals.

A friend had several peafowl. Yes they are lovely. But her neighbors where out to killl them if they got a chance. Guess they where totally annoyed. Birds where very LOUD, would perch in the carport and leaving BIG BIRD doo-doo on the cars and sidewalk. Male would occaasionaly go after them, too! I am pretty sure Tracy just let them run. No special feed or winter enclosure and it can get pretty cold here in winter.

They are so beautiful! Our neighbors had some when I was young. They would come to our house because we had big plate glass windows that they used for mirrors. The males would sit in front of the windows fanned out, turning around and around, admiring themselves. They would do that for hours. It was amazing. Bunch of narcissists!

Then our dogs would see them and chase them - I'm surprised those things could fly - well, they weren't graceful enough to fly I guess. It could best be described as flapping off with a lot of howling and shrieking. Kind of a freaky sound - it would turn your blood cold if you didn't know what it was.

A word of warning - NASTY big piles of poop and they don't have nice manners about where they deposit it! Drove my mother NUTS!!!

It was always so cool to find the long feathers laying around.

I'd love to have one but our dogs would eat them.
