IMG_0438.JPG thought i would share a picture i took the other day. there is an old spring up on the side of the mountain behind my house that has been rocked in and used for longer than i know about. went there the other day and this little fern was growing down inside the hole.

I believe you have oyster mushrooms there, but I can't see the stem attachment enough to be sure. Gills should continue down the stem. It is past its prime anyway. (Of course, don't take my word for it over the internet. Choice edible, and they don't have any toxic lookalikes. You'd need a good field guide to confirm.)

@Carol Dee they are eastern red cedar for the most part. there are some oak, hickory and a few pines to the right and left sides of the pond. that's the view out my back door. and that was the first blue sky we've seen in a long time
