Congrats @catjac1975 for getting this week's POW!
I am so glad it is liked and appreciated. Thanks!CONGRATS @catjac1975 Such pretty pink blooms to chase away the winter gloom.
ooooooooooooooowwwwwww. Hence the algae comment. Does it need aeration? I am liking this. That looks way better than my basil I am growing. Can you keep it going after trimming and eating? My trimmed plants soon become woody. So they are started by cuttings?Growing hydroponically, no fungus gnats either, they would need little scuba tanks to survive in that environment.

No, I give it no aeration. We trim it frequently but I also start new plants so I have a continuous supply.ooooooooooooooowwwwwww. Hence the algae comment. Does it need aeration? I am liking this. Oh it is, much! We used to sell those in our garden nursery in S.A. and had a few growing on the property as well. I haven't seen one since I left S.A. It was nice to see it here this morningI am so glad it is liked and appreciated. Thanks!
I saved these directions. I usually wait and try to search it and they have a hard time finding it. I am currently growing a lot so I will try the next winter. I have quite a few varieties of seed. New to me. So I will see how I do. Thanks! No, I give it no aeration. We trim it frequently but I also start new plants so I have a continuous supply.
I use the jar, a standard 4" net pot filled with perlite topped with a quarter inch of coir sprinkled with activated charcoal and you have a nifty little hydroponic garden, Oh, I forgot to mention a short strip of felt to act as a wick. Add the seed and fill the jar with water and a dilute solution of water and any good soluble fertilizer and you are good to go.
I grow the dwarf variety and purchased the seed on Ebay for about two dollars but there is enough seed to keep us in basil for years.
How did I not know you were in Ireland? When I was a little girl we had many neighbors near our lake house that were New York City dwellers that had emigrated from Ireland. They apparently loved little girls. They would come out to greet my mother and I as we walked to the beach. I can still hear their friendly lilting voices calling out to us.Oh it is, much!
