I don't understand why people continue to keep dogs like that, especially when they admit that there is something so wrong with them. Why would they wait until it hurts somebody, or God forbid, maims or kills a child?

So what if it's their kids dog, it's dangerous and should be euthanized.

Within being at the house 48 hrs he chased my daughter 2x back into our house. I was still mad I was painting and didn't have a gun handy or I'd have shot him right then and there no questions asked. Claim self defense of my daughter and that would have been it. He's an escape artist, fear aggressive and holy terror if he's out.
This one I would report to the police. It's not just to protect you by having something on record if you kill it, but they may have other reports on this dog. Maybe one more report is all it would take for them to act. Or maybe a visit by the police would cause the owner to act if they tell them what their liabilities are.

Had similar problem. Went to his mom, brothers, wouldn't listen. Next time I saw dog loose, called county police. They informed him if I took photos or video, he could be fined on that. $150/time. Dog disappeared.

I've shot a few dogs with an air rifle in the butt. The smart one's never came back.

I've taken a few young pups to the shelter to find decent homes with people who'd care for them.

In the end, you are either responsible for your dog, or I'll be responsible for your dog's behavior. If I hear one upset chicken, your dog has crossed my property line, and it is a threat!

Read a quote somewhere (here? Or maybe BYC?) Goes something like this, 'Your dog in your yard is a pet. Your dog in my yard is a predator.'
There is an interesting thread on here that looks at this from the other side. If our "harmless and helpful" birds roam into our neighbor's yards... don't they have the right to do whatever they think is necessary to 'defend' their gardens, flower beds, sidewalks and decks?

I don't have any near neighbors and my chickens stay in their run (because their run is inside the yard and the dogs RULE the yard). I like the idea of letting them wander. But I just don't have the time to guard them, or the heart to leave them at the mercy of the dogs, hawks, fox, stray lightening bolt, or whatever else they might encounter..

That whatever else that they may encounter is quite a few deseases that they may bring back to your flock and wipe all of them out. If this happens, the health authorities will wipe out any of your as well as any neighboring animals within a preset circumference of the outbreak to stop an epidemic. :smack Think bio security and squash any thaught of letting anything wander ( free range) ! :ep
