This morning I went out to check on my transplanted Oriental lilies and was horrified to see that my best and biggest stalk, still very green, had been severed! I suspect a cat was playing in the patch and knocked the stem off the plant. The lily stem has been green since blooming in July. Do you suppose this will do the bulb in, the stem & foliage not being able to turn brown? Our first hard frost is generally not until Thanksgiving, so the lily would have had 6 more weaks for the foliage to brown, had it not been amputated. Of course, it would have to be my biggest and greenest lily this happened to, not one of the ones that had already turned brown! Anything I can do to help this decapitated lily?
