I just got back from a late lunch and went to Lowes to check out the gutter. It seems flimsy, like Steve said, I would need lightweight dirt. I think I just do grow bags and hang them on my fence posts. I will try the gutter system one day. I googled it and saw some pretty ones on the side of a house. I could use the side of my new chicken coop and put in some flowers. I love space beautification!!!

The grow bags are fun- but they require a lot of watering if they are in full sun.... if you keep up with the water, they do work quite well.

Ksct, perennials can be grown in containers. Some folks have berry canes growing in large pots.

Strawberries grow low and send out runners. "Strawberry pots" are not an uncommon way to grow them. I imagine that in colder places, it is necessary to prevent the strawberry roots from freezing too severely during the winter.

Nevertheless, strawberries probably do quite well for most folks in containers of one sort or another.

THANK YOU FOR THAT INFO...
IT IS RATHER COLD HERE COME LATE FALL UP UNTIL MAY....
IF I WANTED TO GROW SOME STRAWBERRIES IN A LARGE TERRACOTA POT WOULD THAT WORK UP HERE? COULD I LEAVE THAT OUT ALL WINTER?

WE DO A LARGE GARDEN EVERY YEAR AND HAVE NEVER DONE ANY BERRIES. WE'D LIKE TO GIVE IT A GO THIS YEAR....

ANY SUGGESTIONS?

Tell us what zone you are in. I am sure you would enjoy growing strawberries in a pot- or if you have room in the garden. Nothing tastes better!

Instead of Lowe's/Home Despot, is there a salvage yard or building materials recycling area in your town?

My state has what they call "transfer stations," which are basically recycling centers that also take trash and route it to landfills. Folks drop off construction waste at the transfer stations, and some of them have a pretty good inventory of materials--sturdier scraps of raingutter material would not be so difficult to find. Is there anything like that where you are?
