It depends on the definition of a pet. Maybe both? We name them so that the kids can differentiate between them.Will she be a pet hen? Or a livestock hen who happens to have a name? All of mine didn't get names. Mainly the broodies, and of course the roosters. The others that got names was because of their personalities. I have a white EE/other lg fowl, who got to be named Polly. She would hop on my shoulder asking for her treats. And Coco....she says "Cococooo" when she wants her haunches massaged. She'll hop up on my lap.
