Just so you know Monty, I've never had to closely examine the going away end of my chickens in all the years I've had them.
It seems that you have had waaaay more than your share of those personal up close moments with your hens!
Hopefully that situation will be turning around for you soon. ;)

I was busy holding on to clover so Monty could wash off the area so I could not see if it was sticking out or not. I guess my question is how long do we keep treating her? It's bad enough that I have throw away over 100 eggs for the next 7 days because of the wazine, I really do not want to loose a chicken to something that we can hopefully fix.
Hope she will be ok. It sounds like it's pretty managable. Is it possible that it IS just simply swollen and not prolapsed? With the meds and all - maybe she's just really sensitive.
Don't throw the eggs away - feed them back to the birds. Mine just came off of a month of antibotics and I've been hard boiling up dozens of eggs. In the afternoon I carry 4 or 5 down and mix them in with some scratch. The chooks will ignore the seeds until every last scrap of egg is gone - and it's a great protien boost. I figure that there can't be enough meds residue in 5 eggs to effect 13 chickens.
Cane, hate to tell you, but if you feed the wazine or antibiotic eggs back to the hens, then you just prolonged the waiting period for contaminated eggs. So don't feed the eggs back to the hens-you are feeding the medication back to them and messing up the waiting period.

This all proves the point...be careful what you wish for. For years I wished I had the wife's permission to stare at chicks butts. Not exactly what I had in mind, but wish granted :/

Another blood smear today. Examination showed the swelling to be worse than yesterday, but not as bad as day one. Egg laying is probably exacerbating the problem somewhat. We'll continue treating, as it does seem to be reducing the swelling.

You might try keeping her in the dark for a longer part of the day to stop her laying. That way she may have time to recover before she lays more eggs. From what I've read, she might continue to have problem over and over.

Also, be careful that the others aren't pecking her. Any exposed, red flesh will draw them like sharks. Might be a good idea to move her away for a few days till she feels better. Like Red said, maybe you could find a space in a bathroom or utility room for a large pet carrier that she could stay in for a little while.
