Potato's above ground = Epic fail.

I believe that you can grow a good amount of potatoes above ground as long as the potatoes have plenty of moisture, nutrition, and you keep them hilled.
I have always had fair to good luck planting the old fashion way [below ground] so I really never thought much about planting above ground but the potatoes need are the same either way of planting.

I just dug up two 20 foot rows of potatoes and got right around 50 lbs of potatoes. [so from 20 seed potatoes I got 50 lbs of potatoes]

I may have to try planting a potato or two in a old 30 gallon drum I have and see what happens.

I have had fair success with planting potatoes in straw in the past.This year I got them out early and they looked real good. I have the straw mounded up about a foot on them. I have stuck my hand in various times and always found it to be moist in there. However, all the plants have died without getting very bushy. I haven't pulled the straw away yet, but I suspect there will be very few potatoes there. I guess this will be an epic fail, but I will have some nicely rotted straw to use in the garden.:/
